First we’d like to express our gratitude to all of our customers who came in August and September to take advantage of our biggest sale ever.  To those of you who did not make it, don’t despair.  We have so much first class merchandise in stock that we are pleased to announce the extension of our deep discounts through October 15, 2009.  These are very hard times for small businesses such as The Pine Mine, so if you have any pine furniture needs hurry into the store to see the best selection of antique and reproduction pine in the Mid-Atlantic region.

As I write we are particularly well-stocked with antique “knock-down” armoires from France, Germany, The Netherlands and Central Europe; chests of drawers of all sizes; trunks, painted, polished and in bare wood; as well as our usual huge selection of quality antique pine from all over Europe.  Remember that any piece shown in bare wood (i.e. stripped and restored but not yet finished) can be custom-finished in the stain or paint colour of your choice.

We are beginning to think about our next buying trip to Europe, but first we are planning a top-up container of our popular line of reproduction pieces from the workshop in the Czech Republic.  The order book will remain open for custom pieces until the end of September.  This shipment should arrive just before Thanksgiving.

These days everyone is trying to reduce his carbon footprint on the Earth.  Remember that there is no furniture more “green” than antique furniture and that the antique dealer’s work is truly one of conservation. Even our pine reproductions are from timber resources that are either fast-growing and carefully managed, or from reclaimed wood from sources as varied as tobacco barns in Virginia and derelict factories in eastern Europe.  When you shop at The Pine Mine you buy old world craftsmanship and quality whilst avoiding support for unethical labour practices and unsustainable exploitation of raw materials.

On a more personal note our daughter Abbie and her husband Ben (of Housewerks in Baltimore) have given Alan and Linda their second grandson.  Three year old Peter now has a little brother, Simon, who was born on August 24^th, weighing 8lbs 12ozs. Everyone is doing very well indeed.
